Liberty And Frank: Hair with a Difference
I'm really not a hair person. You know those people that always seem to have shiny hair and it always looks effortless and lovely and nice? Nahhhht me. The opposite - it's typically super dry but then weirdly oily just at the roots, it's very curly and frizzy and my go-to is chucking it up because I don't really know what else to do...
Whether you relate to this or not, I'm sure we have all had our fair share of hair troubles over the years, and I have always LOVED going to the hairdresser because it always looked and felt amaaaze after leaving. However, it definitely took some trial and error to find a salon that wasn't pushy hairdressers charging a fortune or strongly opinionated stylists who would chop way too much off and insist on using a hair dryer despite my telling them that my hair WILL turn into Hermione's do from the first Harry Potter.
SO thankfully, I came across Liberty and Frank. The girls here have given me much more confidence with hair, and have been super helpful about educating why certain products will work and why others won't. The first time I entered, I was greeted so warmly by the beautiful owner Sophie and her gorgeous dog Wilson. The salon is *** but relaxed and cosy.
And Liberty and Frank are doing so much more than making people's hair look beautiful; they are a part of Sustainable Salons!!!! I cannot get over how epicly AWESOME this program is. Basically, any salon can join this socially conscious program that repurposes 95 PERCENT of salon waste! Seriously how cool!? All proceeds from repurposing salon materials are donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest to distribute meals for those in need (over 2000 meals every month!). Hair, chemicals, plastics, paper... the organisation provides custom bins to sort it all and recycles it - for example rather than excess hair colour chemicals getting tipped down the drain, sustainable salons takes it to a recycling plant that neutralises the chemicals and turns it into water that can be used in roadworks and construction. It is a seriously cool community-building business that is making change within an industry that is not typically thought of as sustainable or eco-friendly.
The commitment to Sustainable Salons just made me love L&F even more, and it's so nice knowing that you're going to a place where a positive impact is being made. It was lovely being able to chat to Sophie about the process, as she wants to make a difference wherever possible within her industry. "I was sick of pouring chemicals down the drain if too much product was mixed, or putting foil in a recycling bin not knowing whether it actually was being recycled... it's so great knowing where our recycling goes and SSA keeps us in the loop via social media".
I should also mention that their prices are really comparable to the other salons in this area and that they stock the cool Aussie hair brand Eleven Australia - they feature in my Ethical Hair Care post too. Below is the lovely up-do they did for my soccer Gala this year. Let me know if you check 'em out! x
